Happy Birthday Nohe'a Kapiolani!

Our second son, Nohe'a Kapiolani turned 12 today. Yay!!! Along with that, he shares his birthday with his first cousin, William. Happy 9th Birthday William!

A little bit about Nohe'a -- I know all parents say their kids are smart, but really, this kid of mine is probably the most intelligent of all our kids. Every time I see this son, I feel so blessed to still have him around.

Some of you may have heard me share this story before and if you have, sorry, but I am going to share it again. Back in 1998 when we went to Tonga, Nohe'a ended up getting really sick. I think it was from him drinking the water (a mistake we made by giving him some of the Kool-Aid that they made). He had the runs and was vomitting. He became so dehydrated that when he would fall asleep, his eyes didn't shut, they were slightly open. We were in Tonga for two weeks, the second week we were there, I spent in the hospital with Nohe'a. We left the hospital and went straight to the airport. We were fortunate to have two missionaries along with Haloti give him a blessing. We knew he would be fine.

Nohe'a and our oldest Pitasoni have played sports since they were 3/4 years old. He plays baseball, basketball, soccer and football. Out of all the sports played, his favorite is soccer. He does not like football at all. He only played one year.

Nohe'a is my homebody kid. He prefers to hang out at home. When it was just Soni and Nohe'a, Soni always wanted to spend the night at grandma's where Nohe'a wanted to come home. My mom would get so upset, but Nohe'a didn't care.

Haloti and I were blessed to be married by a prophet, President Thomas S. Monson. I will never forget the wonderful counsel he gave us when we got married. Nohe'a is our only kid who has met President Monson. A few years ago he received Jr. Jazz tickets and my brother Brian took him. As they were leaving, they noticed President Monson standing by the elevator. They walked over and Brian asked President Monson if he could take a picture with his nephew.

Last year right before the school year started, Nohe'a had a foot injury. A 2X12 board landed on his foot. I thought it was just a bruise and didn't think nothing of it. Well, his foot got infected. We found out when I took him in the weekend before school started. He ended up staying at the hospital, had surgery done on his foot and missing the first week of school. This was definitely going to be a challenge for him, he was going to a new school (gift & talented class) and taking the bus. After he was released from the hospital, he spent another month on crutches and carrying a wound vac machine. I can say that he has adjusted well considering the circumstances in the beginning. He loves Math and is good at it too. We love you Nohe'a and hope you have a great birhtday!!!
