Soni would be our oldest child. That also means, this is the first time we are dealing with an Eagle Project. Soni finally has his papers signed off by the District and his project is now under way.
His project:
He is collecting various items for the St. Vincent de Paul resource shelter in Salt Lake City. Here's a list of the some of the services they provide:
Emergency Assistance provides basic material goods and services to low-income individuals and families. It also assists new refugees with setting up homes by providing furniture and household items.
The Dining Room provides hot, nutritious meals or sack lunches daily to low-income and homeless individuals and families.
The Weigand Center offers a broad range of services to the homeless including showers, laundry facilities, haircuts and a library. Other agencies offering job, medical and mental health, and legal services are located at the Weigand Center.
Although he'll take whatever donations he can get (gently used clothing, canned foods, etc.), he wanted to focus primarily on toilet paper & baby diapers (all sizes). We found out from the director of the shelter it's two of the items that are needed the most but rarely donated.
On Saturday, along with a few other boy scouts, they took fliers and distributed them through out our neighborhood. He also stopped by neighborhood grocers to see if he could get donations from there. Some of them asked for him to come back this week when a manager would be on site. A few told him up front that they did not have extra funds to do so. He had difficulty going to the stores and asking for donations. In fact, he became a little frustrated.
They came home and Haloti told me about their experience. As much as I would love for everything to be perfect, for things to be easy, I am actually glad it's not.
This will definitely be a good experience for him.
To our amazement, we came home last night to a package of toilet tissue left on our front door step. From who? Not sure, but whomever it is. Thank you very much. Your donation is greatly appreciated.
If you would like to and can donate, we'll be taking donations the next week or two. We can pick up if necessary.
Thanks so much!!!! Much love!
