This past Saturday, before heading out to Boondocks (will post about that next), I made a quick stop at our Neighborhood Walmart. I had to pick up hair gel -- not just for me, but for the boys too. Since it was a quick trip to the store, rather than taking my entire purse, I just grabbed my wallet.
Went to the store, walked around. I noticed the mangoes were on sale. Bought some mangoes as well as items to make otai mango. Got to the register. Paid. And then out the door. Was in a rush to get home, showered, changed and then we headed for Boondocks. Prior to that, I asked my oldest to run out to the car to look for my wallet. He came back in and said he didn't see anything. Well, like I said, we were in a hurry to leave. So I kind of forgotten about my wallet. On our way to Kaysville, I asked Soni if he saw my wallet. He said no.
I didn't worry too much about it. We spent most of the day at Boondocks. Got home around 8:30 or so. Looked around the house, could not find my wallet. Brydan and I headed out to the Neighborhood Walmart to see if anyone turned a wallet in. Arrived at the store and was told by the cashier that 'Customer Service' is closed. I then told her that I just wanted to know if someone turned in a wallet. The night manager came over. He looked somewhat busy. I asked him and he said 'no' without even looking. I stood there for a moment trying to organize my thoughts.
I thought to myself, do I throw attitude, should I be patient? I asked nicely, "so you worked this afternoon"? (It was now 10 pm.) He said, "no, but I'll check". I thought to myself 'okay, jerk, why didn't you check the first time'. He looked in the locked drawer and nothing. I then asked, 'Well, don't you have survelliance cameras? Is it possible to take a look at the tapes?'. By then I could tell he was annoyed. He then proceeded to tell me, 'well, the cameras don't go far out and besides, you would have to file a police report'. I then told him, 'okay, I'll file a police report'. We then got Brydan's shopping and then headed home. Got home and started calling the banks to cancel my cards. Luckily this wasn't 15 years ago or so when I had a TON of cards. I had just a few to cancel.
The following morning I woke up just thinking about the incident the night before at the store. I said a quick prayer. Then I called the store. I asked the agent on the other line if someone turned in a wallet. She then asked, "what color". I told her "black". She then asked if there was money in it. I told her, "yeah, at least $100 or so, but there probably wouldn't be any in it". She then asked, "what name is on the driver's license?" I told her my name and she said, "yes, I have your wallet right here". She then told me how it was left out in the open, not locked up. I then began to tell her about my incident with their night manager. Also told her I would be in shortly to pick it up.
I quickly got dressed, headed in and picked up my wallet. She then called her manager and asked me to report what happened the night before.
I am so grateful for whomever that honest individual was that turned in my wallet -- cash and all! I could see so many chances where they could have just taken the cash and trashed the wallet. But they didn't.
