On the Oprah show...

Since I didn't post anything yesterday, I guess it's okay to post 2 items today. LOL. On a normal day, I usually do not have time to watch tv. However, when I got home today I received a text from my little sis Silia. She mentioned that she was watching Oprah and it was an episode about her weight. I quickly turned on the show and caught a glimpse of the episode. I had planned out my day to get my workout while my two older boys were at scouts. So as much as I wanted to watch the show, I had to head out in order to get my workout in before they get home from scouts.

Went and worked out and then got home in time to run Nohe'a to this basketball practice. So here I sit waiting for his practice to be over. In the meantime, I logged on to www.oprah.com and read about the episode today. Here's the link to today's episode.

The episode today featured Oprah's confession for her 40 lb weight gain since 2004. I'm not sure if you remember an earlier post of mine regarding the People magazine article. It's funny 'cause this episode confirmed what I know for sure and that is making ones self a priority. On top of that, finding balance in your life. As much as I want to "be healthy" and "be fit", I need to make sure that I don't let the other things in my life slide.

One important thing mentioned in the episode is exercise. For me, since I've lost close to 50 lbs since Oct. of '07, I think the only way I've been able to maintain it is exercise. I do not deprive myself of food. If I want a hamburger with cheese, I have it. I just know that I need to work harder to burn those calories. You must always have a plan. You have to be conscience of what you eat and how much - especially if weight is a concern.

I know they recommend working out with a buddy - but honestly, I think it works best by yourself. Invest in an IPOD or MP3. I say that because if you rely on a work out buddy, what happens when that buddy doesn't want to work out? What happens if they are busy? The reason why I say invest in an IPOD is because for me that's what has helped. I put on my headphones, turn the volume up and just work out. I pretty much have the entire room tuned out. That's what gets me in the gym day in and day out. You don't need to rely on that buddy, just pick up your IPOD and go. Like I mentioned before - it takes 21 days to form a habit. In no time, it will be a part of your daily routine.

Okay, now that I wrote a novel - I hope that the little info I shared helps. Find your motivation and stick with it. Think of it as long term.

Thanks for the tip. It truly does seem that time has flown by and you or least I don't feel so winded, when I have music playing. It's awesome!
