Sometime around the end of January my daughter came home with a packet for the school's science fair. They were not required to participate, but they strongly encouraged the third graders to enter. Excited as she was, I let her. She decided that she was going to do her science project on sugar crystals. So about a week after she turned in her entry, we started on her project.
Last night I found out that the tri-fold was due today. She never received one from her teacher, so we needed to buy one. Like I mentioned in my previous entries, I've been trying to make it an every day (except for Sunday) to get some kind of work out in. I was debating whether or not I should go. My sister Kalo talked me into it. The plan was to catch the 7:00 kickboxing class and then afterwards head over to the Super Wal-mart next door.
That didn't happen. Why? Because we left the camera at home with the memory card. We drove all the way back home, dropped off Nohe'a and the twins and then headed back to the store. We get to the store, pick up the supplies needed for her tri-fold board. We then headed over to the Photo department looking for the Kodak instant print machine....guess what? It was down because the Photo department was closed.
Due to my procrasination, no laptop, we had to figure out how to print the photos for her project. I was temped to buy a Photo printer (even though we already have one but need paper and ink - and Walmart didn't carry it) that cost about $29. I thought to myself..."Twenty nine bucks is not bad". Then noticed it came with sample ink and paper. Who knows how much we would need. The safe thing to do would be to buy extra ink and paper. Guess how much that cost? About $46 plus change. Okay, this science project was going to be pricey.
Being the cheap person that I am -- thought about it some more. It was already 9:15 pm and we really didn't have very many options. Soni and I even tried talking Ailini out of doing the project. She was all teary eyed and I felt bad and was trying to think of other ways to print out her pictures. I spotted a worker and asked about the Kodak photo print machine - she mentioned that when the department is closed, the machine is shut down. I asked her if she knew of other places with machines like that 'cause my brain was not functioning well. (Remember I woke up at 4:30 am to do my hair? I went to bed at midnight the night before prepping my coupons. So yeah, not a good night to be staying up late.) She told me to check out Walgreen's - they usually have machines like that and they are 24 hour.
We rushed out of Walmart so we can get to the Walgreens on the way home before they closed at 10 pm. Figured if we made it to that one then we wouldn't have to drive over to the 24 hour one which is semi-out of the way. We got there and found that they didn't have the Kodak instant print machines. Asked the girl there if they had any location with 'em. She said no and they only carry the Fuji kind. I think she felt sorry for us 'cause then she asked how many photos we had to print. I guessed and told her 12. She said if we hurry and submit them she can print them up for us. Both my daugher and I were so happy. We started loading the pictures and it ended up being 27 photos. She said it was fine and it wouldn't be a problem. After waiting about 15 minutes, we had the pictures and we headed home to work on the tri-fold board.
We finally made it home and it was now 10:30 pm. Haloti and the other boys were fast asleep. Soni of course was still awake 'cause he went with us (to buy a sled for the scout campout this weekend). We started working on her project and finished it shortly after 11 pm. So not bad considering we started so late on it. She was pleased and that was all that mattered.
I took a picture of her science board - so when I get my laptop back, I will upload that picture too. Glad that's finally done with - now it's the recital tonight and science fair. Can't wait for the weekend! It's been a long week!
