It's been forever since I've shopped the D.I. (Deseret Industries). Maybe it's because of memories from childhood and always shopping thrift store...who knows. But I have friends and family who frequent the D.I. and have found very good deals.
Yesterday while my daughter was at piano, the twins and I decided to check it out. I mean, we had an hour to kill. I didn't have much money with me -- in fact, just $5, but I was determined to find something and buy it.
We walked around the store -- stopped by the furniture section to check out what they had in stock. From the blogs I follow -- am determined to makeover old pieces of furniture -- of course furniture I'll use in my own home. Here's what I found:

I was interested in the white table. It was only $20. I thought maybe I could paint it black and use it in my family room. Just an idea - 'cause remember I only had $5. Oh and the chairs to the left -- I thought of Michelle and her blogs about chairs like this. I forgot to see how much they cost. They are in good condition other then they both needed to be re-upholstered (spelling?).

Now this piece cost $65 and is big. Still in good condition. This too, I thought I could re-paint it and change out the accessories.
After wandering the store for a little bit, noticed it was time to pick up my daughter. I had 2 items in my cart each $2. Here's what I ended up buying:

This Von Dutch trucker cap -- retails for $49.99-still brand new!

I own about two of these pans. They are hard to come by and the only place I've been able to find them is at the thrift store. What's great about these pans? Well, you take a regular cake mix (I prefer chocolate), mix it according to directions. Split the batter in half into two of these pans. Bake. Then flip the cake on to a plate. Mix chocolate pudding (of course according to directions), fill the top of the cake, then spread cool whip over it. A quick, fast, easy and elegant dessert (grate a chocolate bar over the cool whip -- makes it really fancy). One cake mix makes 2 cakes.
I forgot to mention, I browsed the shoe section. I found two pairs of gently used heels for $4 each. It was a good thing I only had $5 because I would've bought them. I should've taken a pic...oh well, next time. I'm sure I will be making more trips to the D.I. in the near future!!!!

I would have used credit if I were in that store. There were way too many choices and good opportunities! Impressed with you for sticking to the $5. You had great ideas with the furniture!
OH sNAPPPSSS you found the famous cake pan that you cannot find in the stores lucky you...time to hit the DI to search for them!!
I wish we had a DI in Minnesnowda. I try to shop for alot of suit jackets for Deacons in our area that don't own any, so they can wear them during the passing of Sacrament.

I absolutly love the thrift stores.. And the cake pan was a total score, you cant go wrong with them.. Ive changed my kids back to VCR with video tapes cuz they kept breaking or scratching the DVD's and the DI is the best for that.. Love it..
