ONE year.

I can't believe it's been a year. A year today. A year since certifying as a Zumba instructor. How has it been? I'm not going to lie, there was a brief moment when I was teaching where I doubted, I wondered if this is really something I would like to do. There were times where I wanted to give up, just stick to taking classes only. There were many times where I wondered if I really had what it takes to be a GREAT instructor. I wanted everyone to LOVE my classes.

I guess you can say certain things happened that made me doubt and feel this way. On top of teaching my classes, I would catch other instructors classes. In the classes I would take in as much as possible, watch their teaching technique, pay attention to their choreography and the list goes on and on. Like I said, I wanted to be THAT instructor that everyone loved. As I would workout with these instructors, it would literally kick my butt. I wondered how could I teach when I could barely keep up in other Zumba classes. I wondered if I was really giving my class members a workout. It probably didn't help when I lost my Murray morning class. I was fine when I was told that they would do away with the class. For one, it didn't bring in the numbers needed to keep it. Along with that - going into summer, numbers are expected to decline...blah, blah, blah. I was fine with it. Well, I was fine with it at the moment...so I thought. It didn't help a few weeks later when I was on zumba.com and noticed another instructor listed as teaching the class that I thought they were doing away with. Yeah, I was a little disappointed. In fact, disappointed enough that when one of the instructors called from that location called to see if could sub, I declined. I know, grow up right? I'm still human. Lol.

Thank goodness it was just a phase I went through. I'm pleased to say, I still love Zumba and I LOVE teaching. I think something that has helped me with the better attitude is just not thinking & trying too hard. I think I was too focused on being PERFECT that it took away the fun of it all. I love all the people I have met through Zumba.

Here's a little something I am excited to share. As you probably all know, twice a week I teach a FREE class that is open to all who are interested in coming. Majority of the people that make it out each morning are polynesian - Tongan to be exact. Over the past few months, the size of the class has grown. Along with that, there is a cool bond between everyone in class. Some things we are trying to incorporate are lunches/get togethers and even community service projects. I am excited to be associated with a wonderful group. They inspire me to keep going and just do the best I can. Weh, got sidetracked...so here's what I was meaning to share...in the group of women that come out each morning, 3 of them are certifying next month. There are 3 others who are contemplating the idea. You don't even know how excited I am. We set this crazy goal to go to the Zumba convention next year and to put together a Team Tonga. It will be fun and I'm so excited for these women. They will be great!

I forgot to add - with the three certifying next month, we've decided to add a few more morning Zumba classes. Actually, Monday through Friday. Once they are all OFFICIALLY certified, I think we will take turns teaching - or have set days we teach.

That's my Zumba news for you!!! Have a fabulous Memorial Day weekend. And maybe, just maybe, I might be able to get caught up in blogging. We'll see.
