A few weeks ago, my brother asked my boys if they wanted to help him and his friend with some yardwork. It was for sure that my two oldest would help. As the weekend neared, the twins got to go along too. The two older boys both earned $80 each and the twins each earned $20.
The kids know that any money earned they are to take 10% and pay their tithing. Then the rest is theirs to spend as they please. Soni, my oldest decided to use his money to buy him an outfit for the 9th grade school dance. Nohe'a decided to save his money. A few days after they were paid, I took all of them with me to Ross. Soni found him an outfit. Gideon decided he wanted to buy him a pair of shoes. "The only problem with Gideon is that he had 'forgotten' his money at home. The shoes he chose $27.99 - above his $20 allowance. He somehow convinced me to cover the difference and then he threw in a 'matching shirt' - an additional $5.99. As for Brydan, he said he was saving his money to take me to the movies. I thought he was all talk. But sure enough, when we were at Ross, the other boys would ask if he was going to buy anything and he replied, "no, I'm going to save my money to take mom to the movies". Isn't that the sweetest thing?
The original plan was to go Friday evening. But come Friday day, work was a little hectic, so I called home and spoke to Brydan. Of course the first thing he asks is, "mom, today is when we are going to the movies, right?" I told him I had an 'option'. I asked him if it was okay that we go to the movies on Monday, Memorial Day? He asked, "what's my other option?". Funny kid, I told him, actually that's the only option. He's probably thinking, "that's not an option". Lol. He agreed to Monday.
We decided to catch the 3:15 pm showing of Pirates of the Carribean 4. When we got to the ticket booth he paid for our tickets with his $20. It cost $13 for the both of us. That left $7 plus an extra $1 he had to buy snacks. We made our way to the snack bar and the first thing he asks is, "mom, what do you want"? I told him I'll just take some chocolate covered almonds. I then asked him what he wanted, he hesitated and I said, "just get whatever you want". We placed our order and it came out to $15. When the cashier told him how much, he just stood there. You should've seen his face, saddest thing. I then pulled out $20 and paid for it. He then smiled. We then made our way to our seats.
He was so excited. I on the other hand don't do well in dark theaters. Let's just say I only watched about 80% of the movie. I totally knocked out. Poor guy. Thank goodness my cousin's son was there and was sitting next to him - so the two were able to laugh and enjoy the movie.
After the movies, we stopped by Chili's and had a little something to eat. We ordered a trio appetizer plate and then dessert which we split both between the two of us. It was delish!
Thank you Brydan for being so kind and thoughtful. I hope you continue to be this way as you grow older. I love you!!!!!!
