Zumba with Teresa

The night started out with Silia meeting me at my house. From there we stopped by my mom's to drop off my boys. Sister Kalo was suppose to go with us, but instead, she was getting her hair done. About 7:00 we headed out. Punched in the address to the GPS and off we went.

We're driving along and noticed that the exit we were suppose to get off was closed. Thank goodness we had the GPS or we would've missed the class. The GPS re-calculated and we made it there with no problems. Early too. Silia and I were like one of the first ones to arrive. Not too long my cousin Halli showed up. It felt good to see a familiar face.

We found our spots and double checked with the ladies at the door if people had assigned/or favorite spots -- she said they didn't. I found a spot on what looked like the second row -- but somehow I ended up in the front row close to the center. I brought my belly dancing scarf to wear, but as people started showing up, no one had one on. So I left mine in my backpack.

Class started, first song, we were moving. Liked it. Second song, liked it too. Wish I had my skirt on, but didn't dare. Finally half way, just had to put the skirt on. Put it on and didn't dare look at the class to see their reaction. In fact, I think I was in my own world (well, me and Silia) 'cause we were just doing what we normally do in our regular class. We were cheering (don't know how to word that in english, but the polys know, when you get mafana -- all warmed up -- you just let out a loud cheer) and a few times just doing our own. All in all, Teresa is an amazing instructor. You can totally tell she is a dancer!

What did I love and learn about her? I loved that she worked her way around the classroom. She came and stood by us a few times and that really helps push you to keep moving when really you just want to drop to the floor. No really. She's got rhythmn and just moves. I like that. In the different classes I've taken, I've noticed that if the instructor moves a certain way -- the class does the move just like the instructor. No one really dares to do their own version of the move the instructor is doing and if the instructor is doing it funky -- the class is doing it the same way. But because she's a great dancer, you really try and imitate the way she does the move -- well, at least I try to.

Something else I learned? I need to learn how to follow an instructor that faces you. I am so use to following someone who is facing the same direction I am. It's funny because I think she could tell I was a little lost because she quickly turned to face the same direction as I did so I can follow correctly. LOL. If and when I teach, I need to learn how to teach facing the class and away.

Anything I didn't like about her? Nothing really. The only problem I had was the studio. The floor was different from the normal wood floors in most studios. They didn't have any fans in the room and I was dying! It was hot in there and I had to completely step outside of the building to cool down. But all in all it was a fun and good experience. I would definitely catch one of her classes!!!! She's good. If you want more info about her classes, check out her blog HERE.

Me with the beautiful Nancy. She's married to my cousin David and she came with her cousin (and good friend of mine) Lativia. And these are her pics I copied.
